Next Friday I’ll be getting a microdiscectomy to treat a herniated disc I’ve had in my lower back for almost a year. Although I’m a little nervous about the operation and the risks involved, I am ready to get over this pain and move on with my life.
Pictured to the right is an MRI of my lower back. It may be hard to see at first, but that little dark bump coming out around the bottom into the lighter colored area is what has been pressing onto my nerves and causing pain to shoot down my leg. Not fun, not at all. The surgeon will remove that bulge, clean up the area, and seal it up. I’ve gone through NSAIDs, physical therapy, and two epidural injections, but none of those options have given me relief. Hopefully this surgery will change that!
